It’s no secret that we love our Velodrome. We sell track bikes, race track bikes and just all around dig the culture that exists up in Blaine, MN. It was with a heavy heart that we learned last year our Velodrome was in rough shape and may have already seen it’s last race.
So you can imagine our joy when we walked onto that lovely grass infield this past Thursday evening. Our Velodrome is back and better than ever, thanks to the efforts of a few local folks who raised the funds to keep it going. We always invite our customers up to see a Thursday Night Lights, but now we must insist – it’s too special a thing to miss.
We hope to see you up there this season.
We prepare for slick off-camber turns. For mud up to your shins and beyond. For grabbing tiny cups out of the hand of strangers and awkwardly enjoying their offering. For the long nights spent cleaning a bicycle which was pristine only a few hours earlier. For huddling by a propane heater in a drafty tent on days when most sane school administrators would shut their doors.
We prepare, of course, for Cyclocross.
Let us celebrate our Track and welcome the Cyclocross with the traditional rights of SONDERKROSSEN. With food, merriment and funtimes for all we will ring in the changing of the seasons.
We begin at 6PM on September the 19th and continue until we simply cannot anymore. At 7 PM we will have a guest from Seven Cycles (a Mr. John Lewis) come in and chat with us about all the best Seven has to offer. I’m particularly excited about that one.
Furthermore – any Track and Cyclocross items (including BIKES, excluding Tiemeyer framesets) will be 20% off. This includes new 2015 Cyclocross rigs, so if you’re looking to get stoked on cross and need a new bike, we’ll have one for you here at a ridiculous price.
See you there, speed racers.
UPDATE : We will now have preregistration for our #TNCX evening this Friday at SONDERKROSSEN! It’s still just $15, but you’ll be able to avoid all sorts of lines and stuff that generally people find annoying! So swing on by anytime during the evening and prereg and maybe have some free drink on us.
If you follow this blog with any sort of regularity, you’ve probably figured out we’re fans of Velodrome Racing (AKA – #TRACKNIGHT). So when State Bicycle Co. came out with the Undefeated last year, we were a little more than excited. A great Track Bike doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to take you from Cat 5 all the way to the top, but there are a few things that you need to get right.
For instance : The Crank. A 144BCD crankset is necessary and the SRAM Omnium is what a lot of Track Cranks aspire to and they come standard. The Frame should be stiff but still relatively light and the 7000 Series Alloy State’s sourced for this guy does the trick. The Carbon fork keeps the front end nice and still as you’re whipping around those banked turns at 30+ MPH. All in all, it’s got everything you need to start out in style. You’d be hard pressed to find a bike this well equipped for the Track at only $1,099, but that’s all State’s asking for this one.
If you’re signed up for the Intro to Track Racing class and want to show up correct, this might be a good place to start.
2013 brought a lot of fun from the guys over at CINELLI, but I would venture to say that 2014 will be a year to remember. Another great Track collaboration with the dudes at MASH SF along with the brand new touring/commuting/adventuring bike, the Hobo, keeps our attention firmly in their grasp. We can’t wait to show you what we’re bringing in to represent that lovely winged ‘C’.
In the meantime, enjoy these photos from Interbike. We’ll keep you posted on when you can expect a more ‘in the flesh’ appearance at Omnium early this next Spring.
It’s happening again and we’re powerless against it. The seasons change and with this change comes a farewell to our beloved wooden bowl up in Blaine. But do not despair, local racers, for another distraction is upon you. Something which will absorb your newly freed weekends and evenings with an astonishing speed – the Season of Cyclocross is upon us.
So we celebrate our 2013 Track Season and we ring in our 2013/14 Cross Season with the traditional rights of SONDERKROSSEN. There will be food. There will be drink. There will be merriment.
Also maybe some really sweet announcements and product deals.
See you there.
This right here is some good stuff.
Reminds me of a certain weeknight up in Blaine.
Only four left. Can you believe it? Almost like Summer is slipping through our hands.
But we ain’t done yet.
See you Thursday, Speed Racers.
Once more the rest are on the Facebooks.
Next week, we take a rest for the 4th. See you on the 11th!
And boy, is there a lot of sun up at Blaine right now. Come on up this Thursday Night and check it out. It’s a blast.
The rest of these guys are up at the Facebook page. Go check em out and tag your friends!
Another Tracknight has come and gone. As always, more photos up at our Facebook.
See you next Thursday, Racers.
What an amazing event.
Every year, we’re lucky enough to host the MN Fixed Gear Classic and see some of the best Track racers of the World compete at our little wooden Track up in Blaine. When these racers line up and hit it, all 250 meters of our Velodrome become a battlefield of wits and raw strength. If you haven’t made it up to see this event, sadly you’ll have to wait until next year, but definitely put it on your calendar now.
Also : Congrats to Mr. Nate Brenneman for competing in his first MNFGC and obtaining 4th place in the Sprint Omnium! That’s just insane. Very excited to have Mr. Brenneman on Omnium Racing this year.
As always, more photos can be found on our Facebook Page. Hope to see ya’ll out next Thursday when regular racing returns to the Velodrome!
