30 Days Of Biking // Event!

A Community of Joyful Cyclists.

There it is – five words that bring us together. Whatever you ride, whenever you ride and for any reason you can imagine – it’s just about getting on the bike and having a good time. #30DaysOfBiking started right here in good ol’ MN and it makes sense that it came from a place that has adopted cycling as thoroughly as we have. Here, it’s not a big deal to hop on your bike and ride down to your neighborhood DQ or one of our (many) lakes for a swim. We’re excited to have this ‘holiday’ to celebrate our daily rides and share them with others.

So when Patrick Stephenson (Cyclist, Writer and one of the founders of #30DOB) puts out the call for sponsors to help make this the best April yet, we were completely on board. All this month we’ll be putting on rides, events and offering a few deals to help ya’ll make this #30DOB the best yet.

If you’re not entirely sure what I’m talking about and want to hop on the joy train, you can pledge here. It’s really simple. Make the pledge. Ride your bike every day in April. Share it with others.

And if you are signed up, we hope to see you at the Kickoff Ride this Sunday, March 30th!

State Bicycle Co. – The Undefeated // New!

Processed with VSCOcam with c2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c2 presetIf you follow this blog with any sort of regularity, you’ve probably figured out we’re fans of Velodrome Racing (AKA – #TRACKNIGHT). So when State Bicycle Co. came out with the Undefeated last year, we were a little more than excited. A great Track Bike doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to take you from Cat 5 all the way to the top, but there are a few things that you need to get right.

For instance : The Crank. A 144BCD crankset is necessary and the SRAM Omnium is what a lot of Track Cranks aspire to and they come standard. The Frame should be stiff but still relatively light and the 7000 Series Alloy State’s sourced for this guy does the trick. The Carbon fork keeps the front end nice and still as you’re whipping around those banked turns at 30+ MPH. All in all, it’s got everything you need to start out in style. You’d be hard pressed to find a bike this well equipped for the Track at only $1,099, but that’s all State’s asking for this one.

If you’re signed up for the Intro to Track Racing class and want to show up correct, this might be a good place to start.

Frostbike 2014 // Photos!

Processed with VSCOcam with s1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s1 presetEvery year we make a pilgrimage to a place that we get a ridiculous amount of our daily wares from. The fine folks at Quality Bicycle Products do so much good for our local cycling community it’d be difficult to cover it in one blog post. Frostbike is their annual show in which they get to bring together all of the parts that make QBP and invite dealers to come say howdy.

It was a show full of old friends, new friends and all sorts of goodies to touch, weigh, ride and photograph. If you’re looking for the full set of photos you can find them here. And swing on by to chat to Aaron about all the cool new things coming our way this year!

Fall & Winter Glove Guide Pt. 5 // The Craft Thermal Split-Finger

Processed with VSCOcam with s3 preset

Gloves can make or break a ride. A lot of cyclists focus extensively on jackets, base-layers, shoes, shoe covers, etc… but fail to consider their fingers when it comes to bad weather riding. And if you can’t feel your fingers (or worse, when you can’t move them) riding a bike is going to put you in some hairy situations. That said – here’s our handy Bad Weather Glove Guide to keep you on your bike even in the cold and wet conditions that are fast approaching. Our 5th and final installment covers the Craft Thermal Split-Finger Glove.

KHS 4 Season 3000 // New!

Processed with VSCOcam with n1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with n1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with n1 presetWe are definitely in the thick of it. Winter is here to stay, and if you’ve been paying attention to the news, you’ve probably seen a few numbers that may have startled you. This is to say, it’s cold. And with all this cold and snow, what is a poor cyclist to do?

My mom raised me to make the best of the worst, and what’s the best way to spin a Minnesota Winter on its head? Fat bikes.

The Norco Bigfoot has been a great success for us and for the few that we were able to get, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy our need. Thankfully, KHS took up the call and brought us the new 4 Season lineup. Starting with the 3000, the 4 Season brings Fatbiking to the masses. Its Alloy Frame with Steel Fork allows you to do pretty much anything you’d like with it. Vee Rubber Mission tires provide the float (the same tires as on the Norco Bigfoot). Avid BB7 MTN Disc Brakes providing the stopping power and a SRAM drivetrain keeps you going forward. All in all, a pretty darn well equipped bike for only $1,799.

Come on in and try one today! Just wear warm clothes. Because if you come in the shop with cut-off jean shorts and ask to ride this when it’s -23 F, that’s not going to happen.

P.S. – Check out this other great First Look by Fatbike.com!

Seven Cycles : 622 SLX #002

Processed with VSCOcam with h1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with h1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with n1 presetOur 2nd Seven Cycles bike is out the door, and boy is it a doozy. Welcome to the wonderful world of Carbon/Ti mixes. Seven threw everything they had at the 622 SLX, using the best of both their areas of expertise and creating something greater than the sum of it’s parts. Titanium lugs add strength, ride quality and just a hint of nostalgia to an otherwise space-age frame set. The carbon tubes are crafted individually to provide the right amount of flexibility and stiffness depending on where they connect. Combined, they create something completely new – a ride quality that stands separate from any Titanium or Carbon frame on the market.

So of course we had to do it right. With Zipp Firecrest 404’s holding it up and brand-new SRAM Red22 11-speed gruppo providing the drivetrain it’s a speed demon. Chris King headset (naturally), and some Wet White Ritchey WCS components to continue the white lugs outside of the double-diamond shape.

All in all, a truly great bike. Russell came to us looking to make his dreams come true, and with Seven we were able to nail them down and make them a reality. I can’t wait to see where he goes with it. Thanks for coming by Russell and enjoy!
