It’s no secret that we dig on Cyclocross. With July in full swing and August just around the corner, the first race of the season is almost upon us. But Cyclocross isn’t just one season – it’s year round. It’s the dirt paths connecting trails. The River Bottoms. The freedom to jump off of any curb without fear of retribution. It’s a lifestyle.
There’s a few folks who’ve come into our shop looking for a way to dip their toes in the River Cross – but for most it can be daunting. $1,500 or $2,000 on a bike they might not even like (that’s silly, of course they will, it’s a bike – but you get the picture).
Enter the State Bicycle Co. Thunderbird. For only $999, you can jump right in and open up a whole new world of fun. Alloy frame, carbon fork, Avid disc brakes – I mean, it’s got it all. It’s the type of bike you jump on, fall in love with and then pay for hoping the sales person doesn’t check the price. But no! It’s not too good to be true! It exists! And you aren’t getting away with it because we already know!
We’ve got a 55CM in the shop but we’ll have more soon. Because, how could you not?
(Did we mention you can put studded tires on this and rock some Winter too? OH YEAH BECAUSE YOU TOTALLY CAN)
We were stoked when Twin Six, local cycling clothier, invited us to promote one of the #TNCX evenings we jumped at the idea. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that big of a party.
Thanks for coming out and making it a great time. We love ya.
You can see some more awesome shots on our Facebook Page.

Tomorrow! Come join us at Aquila Park for a sick evening of Cross action. For all the info you need, check out this.
See you tomorrow night, Speed Racers.
We prepare for slick off-camber turns. For mud up to your shins and beyond. For grabbing tiny cups out of the hand of strangers and awkwardly enjoying their offering. For the long nights spent cleaning a bicycle which was pristine only a few hours earlier. For huddling by a propane heater in a drafty tent on days when most sane school administrators would shut their doors.
We prepare, of course, for Cyclocross.
Let us celebrate our Track and welcome the Cyclocross with the traditional rights of SONDERKROSSEN. With food, merriment and funtimes for all we will ring in the changing of the seasons.
We begin at 6PM on September the 19th and continue until we simply cannot anymore. At 7 PM we will have a guest from Seven Cycles (a Mr. John Lewis) come in and chat with us about all the best Seven has to offer. I’m particularly excited about that one.
Furthermore – any Track and Cyclocross items (including BIKES, excluding Tiemeyer framesets) will be 20% off. This includes new 2015 Cyclocross rigs, so if you’re looking to get stoked on cross and need a new bike, we’ll have one for you here at a ridiculous price.
See you there, speed racers.
UPDATE : We will now have preregistration for our #TNCX evening this Friday at SONDERKROSSEN! It’s still just $15, but you’ll be able to avoid all sorts of lines and stuff that generally people find annoying! So swing on by anytime during the evening and prereg and maybe have some free drink on us.
Driving us crazy over here, Norco! Some really exciting stuff coming down our way from our friends to the north!
We’re coming up quick on our Year-End-Party and Auction! As is customary, we’ll be spending this week on our Blog and Social Medias giving you hints and sneak previews into what will be up on the auction block!
A SPECIAL DAY 2 2nd UPDATE brings us one of the fun ones – we’ve a CINELLI MASH SSCX Frameset up for grabs in our Auction. It’s a size 54cm, so I know there’s plenty of Cross Enthusiasts out there that’ll fit it. Better yet, since it’s a Single Speed, it’s pretty easy to build up. You probably have half the parts just lying around, waiting for this bad boy to come your way. Super lightweight Columbus Aeroplane Tubing with a lovely Columbus tapered full-carbon fork make up this beauty of a bicycle. Canti-Studs for your favorite lightweight brakes. A beautiful paint job from this guy. It’s bred for racing, pure and simple.
Best part? Regularly it goes for something around $1,100. On Saturday this guy will start off at an insane sum of $500.
Quite a deal, if you ask me.
Be sure to RSVP on our Facebook page if you haven’t already! See you Saturday Night!
It’s here! Tomorrow and Sunday the annual Minnesota State Cyclocross Championship goes down. We’ll be there with a large warm tent, neutral wheels and neutral mechanic support. I imagine it’ll look something like how it was back in ’11, but maybe with just a touch colder temps.
Be safe, everyone. We joke about the cold here, but it can get real serious real quick and we don’t want anyone headed home hurt.
See you there!
Gloves can make or break a ride. A lot of cyclists focus extensively on jackets, base-layers, shoes, shoe covers, etc… but fail to consider their fingers when it comes to bad weather riding. And if you can’t feel your fingers (or worse, when you can’t move them) riding a bike is going to put you in some hairy situations. That said – here’s our handy Bad Weather Glove Guide to keep you on your bike even in the cold and wet conditions that are fast approaching. Part 4 is all about the Glacier Premium Glove.
Enjoy the full review after the break –
Pretty sweet that Portland Design Works, a company we’re big fans of (we even stock their lights!), would sponsor something like this.
It may be getting cold, but plenty of time for bicycle riding left in the season! Hope to see ya’ll out there.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Bike Geeks
Lucid Brewing has been pretty good to us, and when EJ from Lucid approached us with a plan to sponsor their own Brewery CX Team, we jumped at the chance. It just makes sense. So we got together with Stellar Bags and the Minneapolis Musette and did what we could to get these guys outfitted proper. We think the end result looks pretty good.
Watch for these guys alongside our Omnium Racing crew to be killing it this weekend at both races. And be sure to pick up a sixer of Lucid next time you’re in your local establishment, it’s quite tasty.
